Linden Homes has appointed Andrew Rowe as its new land and planning director for the south west region.
A chartered town planner – with 23 years’ experience in the development and housebuilding industry – Andrew will be responsible for acquiring land for development and taking it through the planning process. He will oversee a team of four and will be based at the region’s head office in Exeter.
Andrew, 45, comes to Linden Homes from Eagle One, where he was strategic planning director and also land manager at Blue Cedar Homes for the past seven years. He cites his most memorable achievement as securing the outline planning permission for 900 homes as part of a 1,500-home urban expansion on the outskirts of Exeter, which included a school, country park, road network and the city’s first district heating network. He then worked to deliver the scheme, selling parcels to different developers and ensuring key infrastructure was built. He’s also worked at Midas Homes as its senior land and planning manager, and as planning and development manager at Preston Bennett and Fairview Homes, when he lived near London.
Commenting on his task ahead, Andrew said: “I love the south west and whenever we’re looking to buy a new site, I always ask myself ‘would I want to live there?’ if the answer is yes then I feel confident that I’m making the right decision. A scheme may work on paper but it needs to feel right too and location really is key.
“Despite it being a year of change for the UK, we’ve been selling well and our two recent launches in Swanpool and Newton Abbot have proved very popular. There is a strong demand for three to four bedroom family homes close to major towns and cities where people work, so we’re focussing on these prime employment-driven locations.
“According to the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan, 57,000 homes are needed between 2020-2040 in the Exeter area. There is an underlying demand and we are definitely part of the solution. I’m really excited to be part of this expanding region and playing an integral part in its growth.”
Bradley Davison, managing director of Linden Homes, commented: “Andrew’s broad experience will help us to identify land in our chosen locations and deliver successful, well-designed developments for local communities.
“Linden Homes has spent many years working with architects and technicians and consulting with homebuyers to create its signature range. The Linden collection enables us to build a beautiful development with proven housetypes that work well. This range, coupled with a strong team – with Andrew at the helm – will be a huge benefit to the south west region.”
Born in Taunton and having grown up in Appledore, Andrew moved back to Devon 12 years ago and lives with his wife and two daughters near Newton Abbot. He’s a keen cyclist and loves splashing about on the water on his boat on the River Teign.
Linden Homes is currently building in Exeter, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Blackawton, Sherford, Barnstaple and Swanpool. For more information visit our website or to speak to the land team call 01392 268900.
