Leave London Far Behind - In The Tranquility Of Burntwood Square
12 Jul 2013

It’s only eighteen miles and forty minutes train journey from London – but Burntwood Square feels a million miles away from the hot, dusty capital when the sun is shining and you are enjoying the tranquillity of the 17 acres of landscaped gardens that surround this beautiful development.

Unsurprisingly, Burntwood Square is very sought after, and now there are just a few homes available – all of which ready to move into this summer.

Although only eighteen miles from Brentwood, the capital is far enough away that the Central London effect on property prices does not apply here. The last few remaining properties also include one, two, four and five bedroom homes.

Burntwood Square was originally the site of the Victorian Highwood and Little Highwood hospitals and, during the building work and refurbishment, many of these original red brick buildings have been preserved and converted with imagination into modern homes.

To make it easier to buy a new build home, the Government has launched it’s Help to Buy scheme. Property developers say that the positive effects of the scheme are already being felt, as more people take advantage of Help to Buy so they can step onto the first rung of the property ladder, or move up the food chain.

This scheme was announced by the Chancellor in the March budget and came into force on April 1st: It is a Government backed equity scheme that enables buyers to purchase a new home with just 5% deposit and a 20% Government equity loan – a loan that can be repaid at any time within the first 25 years and its interest free for five years.

And it’s a scheme that has been taken up with enthusiasm by Linden Homes’ buyers already.

Trevor Lepley bought his new four bedroom Linden home using Help to Buy – and was one of the first in the country to do so. He says he simply couldn’t have managed it without the scheme:

“There is no way I could have afforded a four bedroom house without Help to Buy. I secured a mortgage of 3.09% and my new home is only £90 more a month than the rent I was paying out for the two bedroom flat I was in previously - a flat that was a third of the size of my new house.”
