House Building Staff Step Up To Peterborough Half Marathon Challenge
22 Sep 2016

With the countdown now on for this year’s Perkins Great Eastern Run – staff from Linden Homes Midlands are stepping up their support of the popular half marathon.

Runners will be pounding the streets and pavements around Peterborough for the road race and fun run on Sunday 9 October, with a team from Linden Homes joining the starting line.

Staff from the land and technical departments at the Peterborough head office will be raising money for the company’s chosen charity, Little Miracles.

Those taking part include:

  • Mike Walker, land director and team leader whose last half marathon was 26 years ago.
  • Elgan Daniel, land department - no marathon experience
  • Mark Bond, senior technical manager – aiming to finish within two hours.
  • Stamford ladies footballer and Linden Homes buyer Kerrie Ann Howden-Jones – her first running event.
  • Georgina McCrae – Planning & Development. She said: “The last time I did a half marathon (Great North Run), I was overtaken by a man running backwards with a fridge on his back - famously known in the North East as Tony the Fridge.”
  • Alan Lusha – Buying Development manager, Alex Clark said: “When I joined Linden Homes three and a half years ago I shamefully weighed in at a colossal 20 stone, but once recognising I was never going to play second row for England I decided two years ago to start losing some weight. The initial purpose was just to look and feel a little better, over the last year or so running has become key to getting down to my ideal weight and keeping it off! The last half marathon I ran was when I was 18 in a time of 1 hour 40 and it would be amazing to get close to that time now being twice the age.”

Mike Walker said: “We’ve got an excellent team together for what is a very popular event and a great date in the Peterborough social calendar. The camaraderie is fantastic, and the build up is a lot of fun given that we are at various levels of running experience and capability. What’s more, we are raising money for a very worthwhile cause.”

The Magnificent Seven are hoping to raise at least £1,000 and details of how to support the team is available at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lindensmiracles
