Holding Out For The Perfect Home In The Ideal Location
13 Feb 2017

At the end of June, Arun and Robinder Madahar moved into their new four-bedroom house at Millbrook Park. It was the end of a journey that began with Robinder trawling the Internet looking for her ideal home: A new house ideally in an ideal location for schools and for commuting.

“I’d done my research and found Millbrook Park online: We truly loved the look and feel of the development and were picturing ourselves there - our young son in a local nursery and moving onto school nearby. What we saw were impressive family homes with the emphasis on build quality and design.

“When we first started searching, we had our sights set on a three-bedroom house, but that changed and by the time we were looking at Millbrook Park, we were searching for a four bedroom home.

“Unfortunately on that first visit, there wasn’t anything suitable for us available at the time. We were despairing because we liked the development so much and it was the perfect location too: It is equidistant from my parents and my in-laws and is within easy reach of the City, where I work in financial services on a consultancy basis. Arun is an orthodontist and works between practices, so for him great commuter links to M25 and M1 are important.”

But as luck would have it, last December the couple were out with friends in London who told them some very good news:

“While we were chatting it emerged that she had bought an apartment at Millbrook Park in the former Officers’ Mess a while ago.”

(The Officers’ Mess, known as the Inglis Barracks, lies at the heart of the Millbrook Park development. It has a distinctive and beautiful Palladian style entrance porch and was refurbished by Linden Homes to create a series of new apartments.)

“My friend Victoria told us some more four bedroom houses were due to be released. I remember it clearly: That was a Saturday night and on the Sunday morning we drove to the development – timing it so we would be the first customers – and reserved our house off plan.”

Before they put down their reservation deposit, Robinder and Arun had to decide what to do with the house they owned in Nottingham, which they were renting.

After speaking to the sales and marketing executive, they decided to use the Linden Homes Part Exchange scheme*.

“It was a way of selling our existing house with minimal fuss. Linden Homes explained that they would essentially be our cash buyer on our existing home. It meant that if there were delays selling it, it wouldn’t affect the completion date for our Millbrook Park home.

“All we had to do was tidy up and make sure it was in a saleable condition. Linden Homes offered us an agreed sum and took over the sale from there. But the Part Exchange scheme definitely took a lot of the hassle out of the process.”

In the meantime Arun and Robinder were busy planning their new home:

“We bought the house off plan. It was something of a leap of faith but it meant that, although our house wasn’t built yet, we could choose some of the finishes. We chose flooring, tiles, carpets, and white granite worktops. It was pretty fun.”

“Buying off plan really worked for us: I was especially delighted by the amount of space in the house. When we saw it for the first time I realised I hadn’t fully appreciated the square footage – even after meeting and chatting to the builders. And the fittings, some of which were Italian, were beautiful: It was just so well finished.”

A year after they first heard of Millbrook Park, the couple are now settled in to their new home: What does Robinder think of the house and the development now?

“What can I say? We are very happy in the home that we have - and the location is superb!”
