Help To Buy - A Year On: Available At Northfields In Colchester
01 Mar 2014

Top five housebuilder, Linden Homes has praised the Chancellor’s extension of the Help to Buy scheme until 2020 as bringing longer term certainty to the housing market and a continued boost to the UK economy.

To celebrate the extension to the scheme, Linden Homes hosted a Help to Buy open day at its Northfields development in Colchester on 12 April, where interested house hunters could learn more about the scheme.

Visitors that attended the open day event were talked through the scheme and its mechanics. They were interested to hear more about the scheme which since its launch last year on April 1st, has helped around 13,000 people to buy a new home.

Help to Buy at a glance:

  • The scheme is based on an equity loan from the Government: New home buyers (both first time buyers and home movers) can borrow up to 20% of the property price from the Government
  • The equity loan is interest-free for the first five years
  • Deposits as low as 5% are accepted on the scheme
  • The scheme is eligible for all new build properties up to the value of £600,000

The scheme is available at Linden Homes’ Northfields development in Colchester where there is currently still a few of the popular Parkland apartments available.

One of the attractions to the homes at Northfields is the fact that they are within walking distance of Colchester railway station, so although it is set in an attractive and green landscape, it is close to Colchester and within easy reach of London and Stansted airport. London’s Liverpool Street is just a fifty minute train ride away. The A12, A120, M25 and M11 are close by: perfect for those commuting.

Linden Homes’ customer Vicky Wiltshire moved into her new three bedroom Linden Home in December – she bought her new home using Help to Buy and says it was a very straightforward process:

“I had looked into the Help to Buy scheme before we saw the house, to see if it could work for us. I think it’s an easy scheme to use and, most importantly, it can make a big difference to the house buying budget. If we had tried to purchase our new home without the scheme, our budget wouldn’t have stretched to what we actually wanted to buy. With the scheme, we were able to look at properties that were in a different bracket.”

Roseanne Bullen, marketing manager at Linden Homes Eastern, says the scheme has literally opened doors to many first time buyers and home movers who had thought a new home was financially beyond them:

“The Help to Buy scheme has been the catalyst for many people who thought they couldn’t afford a new home – or who thought they couldn’t afford to upgrade to a larger home. Many of our customers who have used it have been very pleasantly surprised when they have seen the kind of homes that are within their Help to Buy budget.”
