It was while Andrew and Stephanie Knowles were living in La Rochelle in France that they started thinking about their future plans – and came to the conclusion that, with retirement approaching, it was time to move back to the UK.
Andrew says they decided to downsize. With a house in France to sell and another in Leamington Spa (which was rented out), they had their work cut out for them.
In the meantime, they began to search for a new home where they could enjoy their retirement. Andrew had some fairly specific requirements:
“We wanted to be in the London area, but somewhere with an underground station. We also needed to be near the family. One of our sons lives in St Albans; the other is in Swiss Cottage. We decided that Linden Homes’ Millbrook Park in Mill Hill would be a good bet.
“We had a look around and we liked it straight away. The finish and all the attractive, traditional brick work really appealed to us and the houses were of a very high standard, with a good finish and great details like triple glazed windows.”
They had a look around a house type called an Axial, a three bedroom town house:
“It was the first one we saw. The house was spacious, with three really good sized bedrooms and its own parking space – a real bonus in London.”
Unfortunately, there was a potential spanner in the works. The couple had buyers waiting in the wings for their Leamington Spa home, but the tenants at the house were refusing to move out. It meant a troublesome delay on proceedings. Until Linden Homes stepped in:
“I know Linden Homes has a Part Exchange scheme available, and this was a version of it I suppose. Linden Homes bought our Leamington Spa house, complete with the tenants still occupying it, then, once the tenants had moved out, the company sold it on to our original buyers. That really saved the day. It meant we were free to go ahead and exchange on our Millbrook Park home.
Andrew says he’s been really impressed with the service he received during the process:
