Embracing The Charming Community Life In Blackawton!

Linden Homes has been enjoying community life near its French Furze development in Blackawton by supporting the village’s international worm charming festival!

The event, which first started in 1984, has become an important day in the village’s calendar. Teams of three people compete to see how many worms they can charm out of the ground and this year’s festival included an under 11s category, an NHS-inspired fancy dress competition, a fun dog show and live music.

Festival organiser, Steve Thomas explained: “Each team is given a plot of land one metre by one yard and they have five minutes to encourage the worms to the surface, without digging, forking or using harmful liquids. The team which coaxes the most worms out of the ground in 15 minutes is named the winner.

“It’s a brilliant event and the whole village really gets behind it. We are incredibly grateful to Linden Homes for supporting our annual international worm charming festival; we rely on the community’s help and it’s been great to see local businesses doing their bit too.”

Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “Blackawton has so much community spirit and it’s wonderful to see everyone celebrating together in this very unique and fun event – we’re delighted to be involved.”

Linden Homes is creating 60 new homes at French Furze, nestled in the picturesque village of Blackawton and set within the rolling South Hams countryside, near Totnes and Dartmouth.

Brian added: “Blackawton has a huge amount to offer: there’s a traditional pub, a popular primary school, a 15th century church, post office and local shop. It’s such a beautiful location and you can’t help but fall in love with the village as soon as you arrive.”

Comprising a stunning collection of two and three bedroom bungalows, plus three, four and five bedroom houses, the development will feature 60 attractive well-designed homes, a third of which will be available for shared ownership or rent, as well as areas of green open space.

There are currently three and four bedroom houses available and the company has a number of initiatives to help people move, including Help to Buy which could help with that much-needed deposit or Part Exchange, where Linden Homes could buy your existing home while you move to a new house at French Furze.

The sales and marketing suite is open Thursdays to Mondays from 10am to 5pm, off Main Street, Blackawton, Devon, TQ9 7BL, call 01803 701140 or visit the website.
