Following in the family footsteps, Site Manager, Phil Darcy has been working with housebuilder, Linden Homes at the Shinfield Meadows, near Reading. His brother, Michael Darcy also works at the development as a Senior Site Manager for another house builder. Despite working for different companies, the brothers often share ideas and discuss their projects with one another.
Phil, 34, started in the industry when he was 16. However, his passion for building was prominent from the age of 13, fuelled by his father and son weekend site visits. Initially starting out as a plumber, Phil then decided to further his skills and train as a Site Manager three years ago. Similarly, his older brother, Michael, 50, started his working life as a painter, going on to then train as an Assistant Site Manager at the age of 31.
Over the years, Phil has always looked up to his older brother with great admiration. With his brother having previously won the NHBC (National Housebuilding Council) Pride in the Job quality award for building homes of an exceptional quality, Phil has his sights set on stealing the prize!
Linden Homes has already achieved success at Shinfield Meadows, with William Love, Contracts Manager having won the NHBC (National Housebuilding Council) Pride in the Job award in 2017. Phil is hoping to continue this winning streak and both continue the Linden winning way and indeed challenge his brother.
“Michael has been a great role model for me. I am keen to follow in his footsteps and continue to develop. Whilst we are careful with what we tell each other, as ultimately we are both creating new communities in the same location, we do often call each other to share our knowledge. Working for Linden Homes at Shinfield has been brilliant, there is a real community spirit onsite and the development is really starting to take shape.”
Linden Homes are committed to creating a new community which also offers career and training opportunities to locals. Phil recently opened the doors to his Shinfield Meadows site and invited local school children to understand the varied career paths within the construction world. Phil commented “It is so much more than bricks and mortar and just as I have looked up to my brother, I hope to also inspire young people into the industry.”
In conjunction with two other developers, the overall Shinfield Meadows development will provide so much more than just a housing development. Situated within a country setting, Linden Homes at Shinfield Meadows will provide a stunning range of contemporary apartments and houses with ample parking. The new neighbourhood will also benefit from an onsite primary school, care home, sport & recreation facilities, a food store, plenty of open green space and leisure pursuits.
A range of three and four-bedroom homes are currently available at Shinfield Meadows. For more details on the development and the homes call 01189 145 083.
