A Community Affair At The International Worm Charming Festival
13 May 2019

Some communities know how to have a good time and the village of Blackawton, near Dartmouth, is definitely one of them…

Linden Homes has been enjoying community life near its French Furze development by supporting Blackawton’s international worm charming festival!

The event, which first started in 1984, has become an important day in the village’s calendar. Teams of three compete to see how many worms they can charm out of the ground and this year’s festival included an under 11s category, spy-inspired fancy dress competition, dog show, football competition, donkey rides and live music.

Festival organiser, Steve Thomas explained: “Each team is given a plot of land one metre by one yard and they have five minutes ‘worming up’ to encourage the worms to the surface, without digging, forking or using harmful liquids. The team which coaxes the most worms out of the ground in the following 15 minutes of worm charming is named the winner.

“It’s a fantastic event and the whole village really gets behind it. We are incredibly grateful to Linden Homes for supporting our annual international worm charming festival again; we rely on the community’s help and it’s been great to see local businesses doing their bit too.”

Emma Colin, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “Blackawton has so much community spirit and it’s wonderful to see everyone celebrating together in this very unique and fun event – we’re delighted to be involved.”

Linden Homes is creating 60 new homes at French Furze, nestled in the picturesque village of Blackawton and set within the rolling South Hams countryside, near Totnes and Dartmouth.

Emma added: “Blackawton has a huge amount to offer: there’s a traditional pub, a popular primary school, a 15th century church, post office and local shop. It’s such a beautiful location and you can’t help but fall in love with the village as soon as you arrive.”

The development of well-designed homes blends in with the surrounding area and complements the village with its use of natural stonework, textured coloured render and slate external finishes. There are currently three bedroom bungalows, plus three bedroom homes available. There are also four and five bedroom detached houses available.

The sales and marketing suite is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with late night opening on Thursdays from 12pm until 7pm, off Main Street, Blackawton, Devon, TQ9 7BL. Alternatively, call 01803 701140 or visit our website.
