A Vistry Eastern director rolled his sleeves up to raise money for charity by spending a day working as a cleaner.
Jason Colmer, sales and marketing director at Vistry Eastern, got stuck in as he volunteered to help cleaners at the company’s Saffron View location in Saffron Walden, on Thursday 15 September.
Jason helped staff from Claire Smith Construction Cleaning Service work their way through six three-storey properties and the Linden Homes sales office on the site. His efforts, working between 9am and 4pm, saw him raise £960 for Papyrus – Vistry’s chosen charity which works to prevent suicide among young people – and a further £600 went to support Breast Cancer Now, a charity which is close to the heart of Claire Smith, who beat breast cancer herself.
Papyrus is dedicated to the prevention of suicide, which is the biggest killer of people aged 35 and under in the UK. The charity provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide and anyone worried about a young person, through its helpline HOPELINEUK.
Claire Smith, who owns Claire Smith Construction Cleaning Service, in Great Bardfield, Essex, said: “It was great to be able to call on the services of Jason on the day. Myself and my colleagues really appreciate the fact that a director in the company we work for came along and rolled his sleeves up and got stuck in.
“My firm has been cleaning homes for Vistry for four years now and it is a great company to work for. Jason and his colleagues always go out of their way to let us know that our efforts are appreciated and that inspires us to go the extra mile to make sure that all the homes, and the sales office, are always spick and span.
“It was, as always, hard work on the day but we also had fun and it was good to know that Jason’s cleaning skills have raised money for a wonderful cause.”
Jason said: “It was both a pleasure and an honour to be able to spend a day helping Claire and team in their work. They are incredibly professional and dedicated and their exacting standards align perfectly with our ethos that only the best is good enough for our customers.
“The day gave me a real insight into the hard work and effort that Claire’s team put in day in, day out to ensure our completed homes and showhomes are always looking their best. It was very rewarding experience and allowed me to raise some money to help Papyrus continue their invaluable work in the community helping troubled young people.”
