'Understated Luxury' Inspires Parkside Place Show Home Design

“Understated luxury” is the enticing theme of the show home at award-winning Linden Homes’ stylish new Parkside Place apartments in Hammersmith.

The collection offers a choice of high specification one, two and three-bedroom apartments, plus duplexes and a one-off two-bedroom mews house.

The show home is one of the two-bedroom duplex properties and roams across 1,282 square feet. Downstairs the master bedroom is en suite and has its own walk-in wardrobe as well as opening out onto a private patio. The level is joined by the second bedroom, utility room and bathroom.

The interior design was conceived by Andrew Henry, of Bristol-based Andrew Henry Interiors. He explained: “Because of the location, the objective was to create a cosmopolitan feel of understated luxury. We used copper as an accent colour – it’s very much a current trend in fashion and design.

“The thought process was that the apartment would be owned by a professional couple working in the city, but it might not be their primary residence; it might be their city base and they have another home in the country.

“We wanted it to be smart, understated and elegant. The centrepiece coffee table, for example, is from a Dutch company. We saw it in January at the Maison & Objet design fair in Paris. It’s something very different that we hadn’t seen before and setting it on the cowhide rug picks up on the copper design again.

“We also wanted to demonstrate the apartment’s feeling of space; for example, with the use of the media unit in the living room. People want intelligent solutions, so we also created a work-from-home space which was quite important to show.

“We wanted to make the bedrooms feel very opulent and luxurious. And the downstairs cloakroom was treated with copper wallpaper so that it has the sense almost of a smart boutique hotel. It’s the smallest room in the house but it still has the wow factor!”

Andrew also had advice for apartment owners decorating their new homes: “A lot of apartments are open plan spaces, so think of creating zones rather than make it all work as one area. Divide your design into where you eat, watch TV, and work, for instance.

“As far as bedrooms are concerned, make sure you get the right scale of furniture for the room. And invest in a good quality bed – you will sleep in it nearly every night for a long time, so get the best you can afford.”
