Surge In Homebuyers Keen To Move To Thornbury

Since lockdown, there has been a high increase in reservation and enquiry levels at Linden Homes’ The Orchards development in Thornbury, mirroring the UK trend that indicates people are looking to move out of the city and nearer the countryside.

This pattern of activity has been highlighted by rightmove and the property portal’s latest research states that in June and July, those living in Bristol searching for property increased their enquiries to towns by 85 per cent and 131 per cent to villages.

Sue Scholfield, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes, commented: “Outside space has become a priority for many. The current situation has emphasised what’s important to us all and lots of buyers are wanting to move to a larger property in a more rural location. Also, a home office or a fourth bedroom – which could be used as a study – is being frequently requested.

“The stamp duty holiday is encouraging homebuyers to act now, especially with the support offered by good mortgage rates. The Orchards has always been a popular choice but in the last ten weeks the development has received over four times the amount of new contacts and reservations based on the previous year.

“Lockdown showed us you have to love where you live and Thornbury is a great location – it’s in commuting distance to Bristol but with a quieter pace of life. We’re now selling the final homes and they’re well-designed and close to good schools and local amenities.”

One couple, Sophie and Matt, moved to The Orchards at the end of March with Mollie the dog and said: “We were living in Bristol and managed to move at the beginning of lockdown – we were so lucky. The fact that we could use the garden and be in our forever home this summer was amazing.

“Thornbury is a fantastic place to live, it’s surrounded by beautiful countryside yet it’s so easy to get into Bristol or onto the M4 or M5. We’re really happy to be settled in our new home.”
