Plymouth's Business Community Brought Together At Emerge's Show Home Launch
28 Jul 2015

Members of Plymouth’s business community came together to mark the launch of Linden Homes’ exciting new show home at Emerge, being created in partnership with DCH.

Emerge is regenerating the Granby Street area in Devonport and has seen the demolition of post war buildings and the creation of new homes within a refreshed street scene. The scheme, together with other important initiatives in the area, will play an important role in establishing a new balanced and sustainable community within Devonport.

Local people, Councillors, business leaders and representatives from Linden Homes, DCH, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Community Homes and LHC, masterplanners and architects for the scheme, were present to view the show home opening. These partners have been working together on the regeneration of Devonport since 2006 and have already created award winning developments, Gun Wharf and Evolve locally.

Councillor Pauline Murphy, who started the demolition works to the development back in August 2014 in her previous role as Deputy Lord Mayor, said: “I can’t believe the transformation, not just to the site but to the whole area. Emerge has really breathed new life into Devonport and I’m very proud to have played a part in it. It’s going to be exciting to watch the rest of the development take shape and I’d like to thank everyone involved in regenerating the Granby Green area.”

Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “Emerge shows what can be done when you work collaboratively and marks the final phase of Linden Homes and DCH’s work in the Devonport Development Framework.

“Emerge is a fantastic development and the community is definitely at its heart so it was wonderful to celebrate together and view the homes already completed.”

Councillor Chris Penberthy, cabinet member for Co-operatives and Housing for Plymouth City Council, said: “I would like to thank all of our partners who have worked to pull together in the recent regeneration. It is good to see this former brownfield site redeveloped to provide modern and locally produced family homes for local people.”

Tony Franklin, business development commercial director from DCH, said: “The new development will introduce a more balanced mix of accommodation to meet a wider range of housing needs. The Devonport regeneration project has successfully sought to re-establish confidence and pride in the area by placing the community at the centre of the change to plan for the future.”

Local company BED supplied the catering and pupils from Marlborough Primary School provided entertainment for the event, by performing a haka and their school anthem.

Designed by Lacey Hickie Caley architects, the development is being built on a three acre site, creating 101 new homes, with 38% available as affordable housing.

The work forms part of Plymouth City Council’s Plan for Homes, which includes plans for 1,000 new homes every year in Plymouth over the next five years.

Emerge currently has a range of two and three bedroom houses available with parking. Built to a high specification, the homes feature contemporary kitchens and stylish bathrooms.
