Pedal Power For House Building Staff Beating The Heat To Support Local Charities
27 Jun 2017

Despite the scorching temperatures, the charity wheels kept on turning for house building staff and other riders at the recent Humber Bridge Cycle Sportive.

A team from Linden Homes East Yorkshire beat the heat to join hundreds of other riders from around the region for the event, now in its fifth year.

Darren Johnson, supply chain manager at Linden Homes, managed to rally round a number of keen cyclists from across the company to take part in the big biking bash – including Vanessa Allison, Claire Sampson, Mike Dee, Hannah Shepherd, Reg Jowlett and Andy Byrne.

The Sportive took place on Sunday 18 June, starting and finishing at the Hesslewood Country Office Park, with this year’s proceeds going to The Ellie Penrose Fund, a charity providing support for young people aged under 21.

Joining the team were sales executives Hannah Shepherd and Vanessa Allison (pictured). No stranger to fundraising, Vanessa – based at the Swanland Gardens development - has taken part in a range of events to boost coffers for local charities.

She said: “I’ve done several sponsored walks and last year took part in the Bubble Run which was great fun. The Sportive was great fun, a little challenging, but I thoroughly enjoyed taking part on my brand new road bike!”
