Meet Linden Homes Chiltern's New Technical Director
19 Nov 2015

Kieran Walker has joined Linden Homes Chiltern as technical director.
Before becoming part of the Linden Homes’ team, Kieran was Head of Technical for Barratt Homes in the southern counties, based in Guildford.

“I started my career in construction thirteen years ago when I began as an architectural technician at a company in Somerset that specialised in steel and glass atriums, facades and curtain walling on large scale projects. I then joined an architectural practice in Newbury where I was involved for the first time in mixed use housing schemes and large scale regeneration projects - which gave me the taste for residential house building.”

From there Kieran moved to Miller Homes as a design coordinator. Unfortunately the recession hit the building industry hard and Kieran was made redundant. But he was soon back in business, this time working for Taylor Wimpey as their development manager.

“I ran the Rowner Renewal project in Gosport, which involved the construction of circa 750 units plus a large retail store and associated public open space on the derelict former HMS Sultan Navy accommodation quarters. From there I moved to Linden Homes as technical project manager at Linden Homes, where I ran the planning, technical and engineering function on their Graylingwell Park project.”

Kieran then worked for a time for firstly, Berkeley Homes Major Projects and then Barratt Homes, where he first met and worked for Linden Homes Chiltern’s managing director Adrian Sims. Kieran explained: “When Adrian asked me to join the team, it didn't take much convincing. Not only was I very keen to work for Adrian - and with his great management style – again; but I also really admire the Linden Homes’ product and specification. I think it’s fantastic – and I think the company has a history of matching the right product to the right location.

“I see Linden Homes as being on a long term upward trajectory, offering premium high-end developments but still building in significant volume offering fantastic design and specification.

“I think the Linden Homes’ customer particularly appreciates some of the details of the build: Firstly the well planned internal layouts and high specification of habitable areas and secondly, the external details such as the elevational treatments or the finish of the kerbs; the block paving and retaining walls. They may not notice the specific materials used, but they will notice the overall high-end feel and superior finish that these details provide.”

Kieran is married with a wife and three daughters. He enjoys rugby and working out in his gym. He says that if he hadn’t gone into construction he would have liked to pursue a career in the RAF or the Royal Navy for the challenge.

So what challenges will Linden Homes Chiltern bring him?

“The ethos of the company, which sees teams collaborating and forecasting properly within the business really appeals to me. I’d like to build on this and work very closely with all departments given the pivotal role that the technical department plays. I am also focusing on maximising the efficiency within the disciplines of the technical department and developing a highly efficient production line in conjunction with the senior management team from land acquisition to completion of units on site.”
