Linden Homes Welcomes Jane Ellison MP To A Development Helping To Boost The Local Economy
13 Apr 2012

Award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes has welcomed Battersea MP Jane Ellison, to its new development The Regent, which is providing a welcome boost to the local economy.

The local MP was given a tour of the development where Linden Homes is building 100 stylish one and two-bedroom apartments.

Ms Ellison also chatted with one of the on-site apprentice carpenters, Conor Maunds, 18, who is working on the project as part of his three-year apprenticeship with Linden Homes’ sister company, Galliford Try Construction.

Speaking on site, she said:  “Linden Homes’ development ticks all the boxes for me. It’s re-generating a brown field site, it’s providing over 30 affordable homes for local families, and it’s employing apprentices on solid, three-year programmes.

“Conor will have a lifetime trade when he’s completed his programme, which is exactly why this Government is so keen to expand apprenticeships and get businesses to invest in young people. When The Regent is finished, he will be able to look back on this project as something that he helped to build.”

The development, consisting of 68 private and 32 affordable apartments, is a short distance from Battersea High Street and Battersea Square and within seven minutes walking distance of Clapham Junction station.

“We are delighted that Ms Ellison took time out of her busy schedule to come and visit The Regent to see first-hand the work Linden Homes is doing in providing quality new homes in the heart of this highly desirable area,” said Steve Bangs.

“With monthly mortgage costs now often less than rental prices, we are seeing more and more professionals looking to move out of rented accommodation to step onto the property ladder. This development fits the bill well – offering high-spec interiors and close proximity to the City, without the hefty price tag which comes with many other developments in this area.”

Steve added: “There are wider benefits associated with this particular development. It’s providing a much-needed cash injection into the local area, firstly through us employing local young people on site to help build the development, and secondly through the New Homes Bonus payments to Wandsworth Borough Council. The council will receive just over £1 million in payments from central Government over the next six years. This means there will be more cash to develop local community facilities for people living and working in this borough.

The Regent is situated on Gwynne Road, Battersea, SW11 3UW.
