Work to transform the derelict Hall Green Stadium in Birmingham into a new housing development is set to get underway in the summer.
The former greyhound track, which closed in July 2017, has been acquired by developer Linden Homes, which plans to start demolition work on the York Road site in the coming weeks.
The 2,700-capacity stadium and nearby 48-bedroom hotel are to make way for over 200 new homes set alongside a large area of public open space.
Linden Homes has named the development Olympia – a nod to the land’s heritage. The site was previously known as the Olympia Sports Ground before the Greyhound Racing Association bought the land and built the Hall Green Stadium.
The development will include a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes, with 32 of the homes being provided as affordable housing.
A sales office is due to launch in the summer of this year.
Linda Huntington, Head of Sales for Linden Homes West Midlands, said: “Our development at Hall Green will deliver much-needed new homes in a sustainable location and provide a significant boost to Birmingham’s housing supply.
“Our plans include a mix of house types which will cater for a wide range of buyers, and the large area of public open space will include a play area for children and extensive tree planting.
“Now that we have acquired the land for the development, we intend to start demolition work in the coming weeks and look forward to regenerating this derelict site into a thriving new community of homes.”
