Two companies are investing £100 million in the redevelopment of a prominent part of Battersea that will deliver a mixed-use housing and commercial scheme as well as new jobs to the area.
Award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes is investing £90 million (together with an additional £10 million from Lookers Volkswagen Battersea), building a collection of new apartments at 98 York Road. The one, two and three-bedroom properties at The Podium will be centered around attractive, landscaped communal grounds. The development will make the most of the south-westerly views towards the river with all apartments featuring either a private balcony or terrace and many enjoying riverside views. A basement car park will provide 87 spaces for residents’ vehicles along with 200 cycle parking spaces on the ground floor.

Battersea is undergoing a huge transformation and is going to be a great place to live. As well as new homes, the area is going to benefit from new parks, leisure and cultural spaces plus extensions to the transport network including the Northern Line extension, which is due to complete in 2020.

In addition, Linden Homes is also providing motor retailer Lookers Volkswagen Battersea, with a new building for its £10 million state-of-the-art showroom. The showroom, which will occupy the ground three floors of the 20-storey building, will create around 90 new jobs.
Volkswagen’s new showroom will increase workshop capacity by 20%, and will also have a coffee shop in-branch and superfast Wi-Fi. The facility, which is also set to have extended service hours, is due to open in late 2018.
John Sands, brand manager at Lookers Volkswagen Battersea, said: “We’re so pleased to be able to invest in Battersea with our fantastic new showroom. Work on our new site is well underway and in the last couple of weeks our old showroom has been demolished.
“While our new site is being built, we want to make sure that disruption is kept to a minimum for our customers, despite our service department being temporarily moved to 44 Weir Road in Wimbledon. In the interim we are offering customers a collection and delivery service with lifts to a selection of nearby train and tube stations, as well as courtesy cars when booked in advance.
“Our new building is set to offer a great experience for our customers and we can’t wait to see it finished.”
In addition to the new homes and showroom, further investment has been committed to the area by Linden Homes as part of its Section 106 contributions. The funds will be used by Wandsworth Council to create a cycle docking station and a new bus shelter on York Road. Free membership to a car club will be provided for one year for residents purchasing at The Podium.
While the new facility is being built, Lookers Volkswagen Battersea has a temporary showroom at its existing site on York Road, adjacent to the new facility. It is open from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
