Linden Homes Agrees Transfer Of Allotments To Local Community
01 Aug 2014

Linden Homes has agreed to transfer allotments in its proposed development in Bridgetown, Totnes to the Totnes Allotments Association, should its planning application be approved later this year.

The agreement follows extensive public consultation by Linden Homes, during which the views of the local community and ward councillors helped shape the scheme. The six allotment site is included as part of a revised scheme layout, which was informed by feedback received at a public exhibition in December 2013 and two further visioning events in February and March 2014.

The site, located between Steamer Quay and Weston Lane in Bridgetown, was granted outline planning permission for a residential development in 2013, which established the principle of development and the point of access. Linden Homes’ ‘reserved matters’ application seeks to agree the detailed aspects of the scheme such as its layout, appearance, landscaping and scale.

A spokesperson from Linden Homes said:

“We are delighted that the Totnes Allotments Association has agreed to take on the allotments at our proposed Riverside development. This partnership is the culmination of collaborative work with local representatives, aimed at delivering a scheme which will provide community benefits.

‘Linden Homes believes that the Totnes Allotments Association will ensure the allotments are put to the best possible use and looks forward to working with them further as our application progresses.”

The Chairman of the Totnes Allotments Association, Paul Goddard, said:

“We will be pleased to take on the six allotment site, following the positive discussions we have held with Linden Homes in recent months. This will be a great addition to our three growing spaces at Castle Meadow, Kingsbridge Hill and Copland Field, and will further the Association’s aim to secure more access to allotments throughout Totnes.

“We hope that Linden Homes’ proposals progress through the planning process and are ready to take the necessary steps to deliver these allotments to the local community.”
