Happy Couple Back Together Again At Boxgrove Gardens
21 Mar 2013

The only difference between Shaun and Gaye Munton and lots of other happily engaged couples also settling into their new home is that they have the advantage of having done it together once before.

The pair divorced 30 years ago but have since reunited, bought an apartment at Linden Homes’ sought-after Boxgrove Gardens development, and now plan to get married again later this year.

Both are retired: 62-year-old Shaun’s career was in car sales and Gaye (61) managed a council-run care home. They are relishing their retirement and already have five holidays booked this year, including a trip to Las Vegas.

Gaye said: “We were married for nine years before we got divorced but we always thought we would get back together when the timing was right.”

Their new two-bedroom apartment overlooks the development’s beautiful showpiece park, and Gaye said: “It’s fantastic. We have just been doing bits and pieces to it and there are a few things left to do, but we love it. We have a wonderful view, we particularly like that. It’s perfect for us.”

The couple sold their former properties and looked for an apartment because they wanted their retirement to be as trouble free as possible.

“I’m very much a person who knows her own mind and is very decisive,” said Gaye. “I fell in love with the apartment when we saw it online. I visited it and just knew it was right. The others we saw came nowhere near to matching this.”

Boxgrove Gardens has quickly become one of Guildford’s most desirable new neighbourhoods, with its airy roof conversions, timber detailing, spacious balconies, and floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded by lush, green, modern gardens.

As well as the stylish one and two-bedroom apartments, it boasts three, four and five-bedroom signature houses, all designed by award-winning architects John Thompson & Partners.

“The thing for us was that this is the last move we’re going to make and we wanted to get it right rather than rush into it,” said Gaye. “But when we came to look at the view that surpassed what we expected. The windows are so big and so light. Its situation is brilliant. Visitors have fallen in love with it and they think we’re so lucky.”

Gaye said she was delighted with Linden Homes’ service, including the Enhance offering, which prepared their home in advance of them moving in after a face-to-face consultation to help them design their rooms and choose upgrades.

Spread out among beautifully landscaped greens and winding, tree-lined pathways, Boxgrove Gardens has a family feel and is conveniently close to the city centre. The town boasts a mainline station as little as 40 minutes journey from London Waterloo, handy road links and proximity to the major international airports of Heathrow and Gatwick.

For first-time buyers and homeowners alike, the government-backed NewBuy scheme can help with the challenge of raising a big enough deposit. It offers fixed rate mortgages of up to 95 per cent on selected apartments and houses up to £500,000 across all Linden Homes’ developments in England.

And for current owners, Linden Homes also offers its Part Exchange scheme where eligible buyers choose from a selected range of homes and within seven days a valuation on their property will be made by three local estate agents, followed by a cash offer.
