Grimsby First Time Buyers Build Their Future With Linden Homes
08 Aug 2013

BUYING a brand new home can be a daunting experience – even more so if you reserve before the first bricks have been laid!

But for first time buyers Daniel Hamilton and Charlotte Teasel, it marks an exciting start to the next chapter in their lives, as the latest Linden Homes customers to buy their home fresh from the drawing board.

Port operative Daniel (28), who works at Immingham Docks, and 24-year-old hairdresser Charlotte have moved out of their rented accommodation in preparation for a move later this year to their dream home at the Freshney Green development in Grimsby.

While currently living with family, the couple – who have friends already living at the development - are able to chart the progress of their new home, and save money along the way.

Charlotte said: “Daniel and myself both grew up in the town, so we knew that we wanted to stay central to work and family. We are both very excited about having bought from plan, as this is allowing us to watch our new home being built right from the very foundations. One of the main advantages in doing this is that we are able to save to buy things for our home when we move in.”

She added: “We drive past a few times a week and take pictures of the current stages, so that in years to come we can look back and see our home through its development.”

The couple used the popular Help to Buy scheme to purchase their home. Here’s how it works:

  • It is available on new build homes only.
  • Purchasers need a minimum five per cent deposit.
  • All homebuyers could be eligible, not just first-time buyers.
  • The government will lend you up to 20 per cent of the value of your property through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of your home.
  • Buyers will only need to secure up to a 75 per cent mortgage from a bank or building society.
  • The maximum home purchase is £600,000

Daniel added: “The Help to Buy scheme has been the main reason in enabling us to buy our new home. Without it we wouldn’t have been able to save for the deposit we would have needed to get onto the property ladder in the current economical climate.”

And the Linden Homes effect has also rubbed off on Charlotte and Daniel – who say they have already recommended the house builder to friends also looking to buying their first home together.

The couple expect to move in later this year, spending Christmas in their brand new home. Daniel said: “We may even have Christmas dinner at our home with all the family. We are very much looking forward to the start of the next chapter in our lives together.”
