First Baby At Home @ Heartlands
16 Jan 2015

Billy and Lucy Czunys, who bought their first home at Linden Homes’ Home @ Heartlands development in Redruth, have welcomed their baby daughter into the world, who is now officially the youngest resident at the development!

Baby Erica was born on 19th September, two days early, at 6.30pm. She was delivered at Helston birthing centre and weighed a healthy seven pounds, 11 ounces.

First time buyers Billy and Lucy Czunys managed to buy their three bedroom house at Home @ Heartlands thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. Billy, from Flushing, is an account manager for a stock brokers and his wife Lucy, 26, is a BT customer services advisor.

Billy, 29, said: “We’ve had quite a busy year – a new home and a new baby! We’re absolutely delighted to have moved in time for Erica’s arrival and it’s fantastic to have a brand new home for her.

“The whole move has been such a fantastic experience for us - we bought our home off-plan, which enabled us to secure the plot we wanted early on and choose our kitchen.

“A new home appealed to us as we didn’t want to have to spend time and money doing a property up, or have any nasty surprises that you can get with a second hand home - like the need for a new roof, which would be a nightmare with a young baby.”

Billy and Lucy were living in a rented one bedroom cottage in Penryn and were desperate to have a home of their own with their dog Memphis.

Billy added: “We were looking to get on the property ladder for ages and were interested in the Help to Buy scheme but didn’t know much about it.

“Linden Homes’ Carole Mitchell was so helpful and really held our hand throughout the whole process. We needed a 5% deposit, which was manageable, and our monthly mortgage payments are affordable, which was very important to us as we didn’t want to stretch ourselves too far.”

Available to existing homeowners and first time buyers, Help to Buy enables you to move with just a five per cent deposit, owning 100 per cent of the home but taking out just 75 per cent mortgage, with the remaining 20 per cent borrowed as a Government backed loan.

Commenting on his mortgage payments, Billy said: “It was about £100 a month cheaper for us to buy our house than to rent another three bedroom house in Redruth, which just amazes me. We’re saving money, reducing our energy bills and investing in our future by getting on the housing ladder - it’s been one of the best moves we’ve ever made.”

At Home @ Heartlands, the properties are being built to Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, which is much higher than average. This means the homes are more energy efficient and eco friendly which will have a positive impact on their energy bills and carbon footprint.

The homes are being built with increased levels of insulation and triple glazed windows to ensure heat loss is kept to a minimum. Each home is being fitted with a high efficiency boiler with pre-heater water supply, photovoltaic panels, plus smart metering and energy display devices so you can keep track of how much energy you’re using. Energy efficient lighting and glazing will improve natural day-light and there is also a natural rainwater collection for garden use.

Currently available is a range of two bedroom apartments and three bedroom homes.
