East Yorkshire Towns Voted Among The UK's Best Places To Live
18 Apr 2019

A new survey has revealed that the East Yorkshire towns of Beverley and Driffield have ranked in the top 10 places to live in the UK – marking great news for new homes hunters.

Proving that it is most certainly not ‘grim up North’ – developer Linden Homes East Yorkshire is delighted with The Sunday Times’ Best of British towns ranking for the pair.

Beverley, the location of a brand new 900-home development, has been named as one of the best places to live in the north of the UK, alongside neighbouring Driffield – also a popular Linden Homes development location.

Described as being “a glorious hunk of green space, ideal for cyclists and dog walkers, with a racecourse and golf course,” the historic Beverley Westwood area has long been considered a jewel in the town’s crown.

Judges said of Beverley: “No longer is this just a place to bask in a laid-back sense of gentility and glance sympathetically at Hull. The town is casting off its reputation as a cultural backwater and revealing its arty underskirts.”

Mention was also made of popular music festival, the 2014 launch of the East Riding Theatre and its range of pubs.

In addition, the report highlighted the 3,000 new homes planned during the next decade; including mention of the brand-new Linden Homes / Strata Homes’ 900-home plan which will incorporate a park and ride scheme.

The acquisition deal with a development value of around £180 million has now been completed on 90 acres of land which will provide 900 new homes for Beverley South; and marks the largest acquisition in the house builder’s history.

It is expected that work will start on site this month, beginning with the construction of a new roundabout off Minster Way – with the first homes due for completion early next year.

The scheme will deliver a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes across the development, and a much-needed Park and Ride scheme for the town, at a cost of around £5 million, developed as part of the Phase 2 works.

Meanwhile, “Deep in the Yorkshire Wolds, Driffield is a small market town where time seems to have stood still,” The Sunday Times said.

Driffield’s market was hailed as “a cherished institution,” as was Stuart’s chippy in Middle Street. Various shops, the spectacular bird-watching opportunities, the town’s schools and nearby stately homes including Burton Agnes Hall and Sledmere House were named as attractions of note.

Linden Homes is currently building the 84-home Heartlands development at Spellowgate in Driffield, comprising a selection of three and four-bedroom properties, suitable for everyone from first time buyers and downsizers to young professionals, and families and those looking to step up the housing ladder.

Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales director Steve Woomble said: “This respected Sunday Times survey is a fantastic platform for recognising great places to live – not least wonderful news for people already living or looking to move to these versatile locations and into our brand new homes.”
