Couple's New Home Returns Them To The Landscape Of Their Youth
22 Sep 2014

Forty-four years since Bob and Christine Fellows married, their new home at Victory Fields, near the Cotwolds village of Upper Rissington, has brought them back full circle to the area they knew when they first met.

The nearby Gloucestershire community of Bourton-on-the-Water was the beauty spot they would visit on trips from Birmingham, where they lived in the early days of their relationship.

Now it’s where they cycle together on sunny days – in between rounds of golf at The Wychwood Golf Club, near Shipton – having moved in May from their four-bedroom bungalow in Minster Lovell, near Witney.

They lived there for 32 years, but when Bob (65) retired from running the print business he owned in Swindon, he and Christine (63) decided to escape the noise of the nearby A40 dual carriageway and seek a quieter, smaller home.

They found what they were seeking at award-winning Linden Homes’ collection at Victory Fields: close to their two grown-up daughters in Witney and Swindon, amid the peace of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in a new home that suited them perfectly.

Victory Fields comprises over 300 homes, almost equidistant between Cheltenham and Oxford. The new community holds the promise of a new primary school, a village, local shop, a proposed public house, gym, nursery, and green space dotted with play areas.

“Because we were retiring we decided to downsize our property and adjust our lifestyle a little bit,” explained Bob. “Where we lived was perfectly nice but it was quite a bit larger and quite close to the main road, which has got more and more noisy.

“We wanted somewhere smaller and with a smaller garden – our previous home had an acre of land! But we still wanted a reasonable size to entertain friends and put up family.

“My wife saw some signs as we were driving to Cheltenham one day, and we had a look and that’s what started it off. The location fitted our overall plan. We initially said we would sell our property before we’d bought, but having looked at Victory Fields it fitted our needs exactly so we decided to put down a deposit.”

The couple bought off plan from Linden Homes, and by getting in early they seized the opportunity to shape the four-bedroom house, including turning one bedroom into a convenient dressing room/office, and relocating some fixtures.

“We had lived in our house for over 30 years so we decided to go for a fresh start, and with new furniture,” continued Bob. “We particularly liked the overall layout and the balance between the living area and the kitchen was just right.

“We saw the property and decided that it was going to give us everything that we needed. We had no hesitation in buying new. Linden Homes were very helpful – the site manager and the sales people were very good.”

Linden Homes Thames Valley sales and marketing director, Steve Garton, said: “Congratulations to Bob and Christine on their new home at Victory Fields. They’ve bought in a beautiful part of the country with good connections and a very special lifestyle.”

The high quality new homes are infused by aviation history from the site’s past as an airstrip once home to the famous Red Arrows. Buyers have looked to Linden Homes’ superior quality and all-inclusive value, as well as the assurance of 10-year NHBC guarantee and two-year customer care warranty.

Local main roads link to the motorway network giving access to the M40, the M4 and the M5. The nearest train station is at Kingham, from where services can reach London Paddington in about an hour and a half. The nearest international airports are Birmingham and Heathrow.
