Convenient And Great Value For Money - An Apartment In Hedge End
30 Mar 2014

Just because you work in Southampton doesn’t mean you have to live there. Think how much more affordable it would be to live outside the city; how much more convenient and how much more you could get for your money.

It is certainly worth paying a visit to Linden Homes’ Millstone Copse development in the town of Hedge End: It is only four miles from the centre of Southampton, so it is very easy for commuters who have to get in to the city – but it is also out of the urban hurly burly and surrounded by lovely Hampshire villages like Wickham, Botley and Bishop’s Waltham.

Such thoughts have obviously occurred to lots of people because sixteen of the new Linden Homes at Millstone Copse have already been reserved.

There are currently ten apartments and twelve houses – three bedroom semi detached homes and four bedroom homes remaining.

All the homes at Millstone Copse qualify for the popular Help to Buy scheme* - a scheme based on an equity loan from the Government: New home buyers (including first time buyers and home movers) can borrow up to 20% of the property price from the Government without being charged loan fees for the first five years.

Crucially for many people – and particularly first time buyers - the all important deposit can work out as little as 5%. The scheme is eligible for all new build properties up to the value of £600,000.

Linden Homes customer Gary Mannion used Help to Buy to purchase his apartment:

“When I saw my apartment for the first time, I reserved it straight away. It was very simple and straightforward. I used the Help to Buy* scheme, which was very easy to sort out. You imagine that if you are dealing with a scheme that uses government funding that there will be lots of hoops to jump through and loads of forms and phone calls to deal with. But actually I think I had to fill in one form and make one telephone call. It was very simple.

“And that is just as well, because it wouldn’t have been possible for me to buy the new apartment without Help to Buy. The scheme demanded a smaller deposit than I’d expected and it meant I could get a better mortgage rate.”

Tina Chalk is the marketing manager at Linden Homes Southern:

“If you use the Help to Buy scheme to buy a one bedroom apartment at Millstone copse it works out to be far cheaper than buying a one bedroom apartment in Southampton: An apartment costing £159,000 works out at £127,000 – if you are using Help to Buy – and you are still only four miles away from the centre of Southampton (and close to the M27), so Millstone Copse is an ideal and really great value location for commuters.”

But don’t forget that Hedge End is also an excellent point from which to reach the countryside, or some of the nearby pretty Hampshire villages. The South Downs and the New Forest, which offer some of the best scenery in the UK, are also within easy reach.
