Carpentry Company Owner Ensures He Doesn’t Take His Work Home With Him!

34 year old carpentry company owner, Phil Deare, has made sure he never works after hours if he doesn’t have to…

Phil, who employs over 50 people, owns the Exeter-based company ?" P. Deare Carpentry and Joinery ?" that specialises in new build housing developments. Rather than restoring an older home, he moved in the summer to a new property at Linden Homes’ Sandrock development in the city to ensure he doesn’t spend his free time donning his tools!

Phil explained: “I was living in Torquay but I wanted to be in Exeter as it’s central to work and there’s lots to do socially. We have worked on a few Linden Homes developments so when the property I was buying elsewhere fell through and I told the sales manager about it, we realised that there was a house at Sandrock that ticked all the boxes and the timings would work well ?" I couldn’t believe my luck.

“I bought a four bedroom Dorset home and love the large open plan kitchen, in fact the whole property has a really good layout. I wasn’t specifically looking for a new build home but I did want it to be low maintenance as I’m surrounded by building work every day in my job. It was important to me that my work/life balance was healthy and I could come home and unwind in a relaxing environment, without jobs jumping out at me. I hate seeing something that needs to be painted or a bit of skirting board that needs replacing, so to live in a home where everything has been done is definitely the right move for me. I just don’t have the time with work as busy as it is.

“Being in the trade, I’m quite particular but I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the build. I have been fortunate to view the properties at Sandrock at different build stages so it’s fantastic to have seen the bones of my house and know that everything has been built to a high standard.

“I’ve been really pleased throughout the whole process and would definitely recommend Sandrock. Levi on site and Aaron in the sales team have been brilliant; they’re both very easy to communicate with and efficient in their roles.”

A keen golfer in his spare time, Phil added: “There’s a great community at Sandrock already, I have some fantastic neighbours and love having a few beers with them. I go to the David Lloyd gym which is just down the road and occasionally I’ll go to one of the Exeter Chiefs games, so it’s good to have so much on my doorstep. It’s been a great move for me!”
