Cambridgeshire Commuters Enjoy The Best Of Worlds -Thanks To Help To Buy
23 Jul 2013

FROM the City to the Cambridgeshire countryside, first time buyers Lisa and Peter Cole are now enjoying the best of both worlds – thanks to the Help to Buy incentive.

The professional couple, banker Peter and sales and marketing consultant Lisa, have recently moved from their rented one-bedroom apartment in London to a fantastic brand new four-bedroom detached home in Longstanton.

Making the move to Linden Homes’ St Michael’s Chase development was made possible thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme – which allowed the couple to find the deposit they needed to buy new.

Lisa said: “We both work in the City and were renting a one-bedroom apartment in London, and were looking for more of work/life balance as well as more home and space for our money.

“Although I grew up near Longstanton and know the area, moving back wasn’t necessarily a consideration, but we fell in love with the development and the house as soon as we saw it.”

The couple are thrilled with their new home, and say they are able to enjoy the best of both worlds – a working life in the City but a wonderful home in the countryside to enjoy, relax in and share with friends.

Lisa added: “The thing we love most about the house is the space. We can have friends over to entertain and stay without it being a tight squeeze and a blow up bed on the living room floor that they had to suffer in the apartment!”

Peter said: “We’d known about Linden Homes for many years and a family member recommended us. The service that sales executive Hannah Balaam-Reed and the whole team gave us from start to finish was brilliant. We have already started recommending Linden Homes and the Help to Buy scheme to friends.

“Quite simply we would still be renting without Help to Buy and probably for a few more years!”

Here’s how the Help to Buy scheme works:

  • It is available on new build homes only.
  • Purchasers need a minimum five per cent deposit.
  • All homebuyers could be eligible, not just first-time buyers.
  • The government will lend you up to 20 per cent of the value of your property through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of your home.
  • Buyers will only need to secure up to a 75 per cent mortgage from a bank or building society.
  • The maximum home purchase is £600,000

The scheme – as well as other cost-curbing incentives – is available at all Linden Homes’ regional developments.
