Battersea From A Different 'Viewpoint'
20 Nov 2017

Emerging from its 18th Century industrial exterior, Battersea has undergone something of a facelift. Known for its iconic London landmarks including Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and Battersea Park, the South West London district has benefitted from a wealth of investment in recent years.

The new £9 billion Battersea Power Station opened its doors earlier this year, Apple and the new American Embassy will soon be setting up shop, and a host of restaurants, shops and housing signal Battersea casting off its industrial past.

One of the area’s newest investments is Viewpoint, a £100 million mixed-use housing and commercial scheme from Linden Homes and Lookers Volkswagen Battersea. Award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes is investing £90 million (together with an additional £10 million from Lookers Volkswagen Battersea), building a collection of new apartments at 98 York Road, along with a new state-of-the-art showroom for the motor retailer.

Matching the area’s stylish café culture and fashion hotspots, many of the 130 one, two and three-bedroom apartments have riverside or cityscape views, that can be appreciated from a balcony or terrace.

On top of perusing the ever-evolving London skyline, Viewpoint buyers will be able to capitalise on the development’s introductory prices, compared with those in the surrounding areas. The two-bedroom apartments at Viewpoint are significantly better value than neighbouring Clapham, where average prices for a similar property are around £804,171.*

Darren Maddox, managing director at Linden Homes South East, commented: “We’ve launched Viewpoint at a time when Battersea is evolving. It’s clear to see the area becoming more affluent and accessible with developments like the Northern Line extension launching in 2020 and the total reconstruction of the Power Station. What’s more, it’s home to London’s only licensed heliport.

“Now is an ideal time for buyers to invest in this hub of regeneration before property prices and interest rates rise again. 90 new jobs are being created at Lookers Volkswagen Battersea alone with the installation of the new showroom, in addition to the abundance of other businesses being drawn to the area. It’s a real opportunity for professionals or families to create a life for themselves in the capital.”

Centred around attractive landscaped outdoor space, the four buildings at Viewpoint offer contemporary, stylish new apartments. The ground three floors of the 20-storey building will be occupied by Lookers Volkswagen Battersea. Underneath the showroom will be a basement car park with 87 resident spaces, and 200 cycle parking spaces on the ground floor. Wandsworth Council is creating a cycle docking station and a new bus shelter on York Road, as part of Linden’s Section 106 contributions.
