“I had the best 40th birthday present,” said Amanda Burden, “most women get flowers, a necklace or a handbag but I got a house!”

Amanda and her husband Brian bought a three bedroom home at Linden Homes’ Higher Moor development in Avonwick and the couple legally completed on 5th March, Amanda’s 40th birthday.

“We’re absolutely delighted with our new home,” Amanda said, “we’ve bought the property as an investment and already have tenants moving in this month!

“We both have an interest in property, so we know what we’re looking for – somewhere attractive, in a good location, that’s easy to maintain and somewhere that stacks up financially.

“The homes at Higher Moor really appealed to us as they are situated in a pretty village, they are very energy efficient, with solar panels on the roof and the yield is good, at 5.4 per cent.

“We also wanted to invest in a home which wouldn’t require a lot of maintenance and benefits from a 10 year NHBC guarantee. The fact that it’s brand new, a blank canvas, enables us to relax - knowing the young family moving in won’t have any nasty surprises that can occur when you buy a second hand property, such as damp in the bathroom or a leaking roof and we won’t have to spend the time and money fixing the problem.

“The house is stunning, it’s an attractive double fronted property, which we have called Lavender Cottage and has gorgeous views out towards the Black Hall Estate.

“We are absolutely thrilled with our new home and it’s been a fantastic birthday present! The staff have been fantastic and we couldn’t speak more highly of them – nothing has been too much trouble.”

Amanda, who is a partner at Luscombe Maye Estate Agents, was introduced to Higher Moor by a colleague, who recommended the homes.

Higher Moor is a beautiful development, tucked away in a pretty village just a short drive to Totnes and Dartmouth.
