Fun things to see and do in Cheshire this summer

From zoos and music to food festivals and zip wires, Cheshire offers a fantastic range of options for all ages.

So where to go in Cheshire for a day out this summer?

For families and outdoor adventurers

Arguably the top attraction in the area is the world-famous Chester Zoo. It’s a must-visit for all animal lovers. With its new Heart of Africa zone now open, it's certainly worth an explore even if you’ve been before.

If it’s outdoor excitement you’re after, the BeWILDerwood adventure park offers mazes, slides, bridges and zip wires. Ideal for the adventurer.

For those closer to Warrington, you might like Apple Jacks Adventure Farm. It has zip wires, quad karts, bouncy castles, crazy golf, archery and more, all aimed at children under 12. Its summer maize maze is also opening in late July.

In Wilmslow, National Trusts’ Quarry Bank is also hosting its ‘Summer of Play’. From 24th May to 1st September, the gardens are hosting indoor and outdoor games, soft play, nature walks and special themed days.

For city and culture lovers

If you’re looking for a free activity in Cheshire that includes some local history - take a stroll along the city walls. Chester’s walls are the most complete in Britain and offer some beautiful views of the city. Or if shopping is your thing, the elevated walkways of the Rows offer a unique shopping experience with various independents.

This summer will also see the return of the popular Grosvenor Park Open-Air Theatre in Chester. Throughout July and August, it will feature productions of Pride and Prejudice, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Alice in Wonderland.

For the festival fans

This summer the annual Cheshire Fest is returning to Capesthorne Hall in Macclesfield. The premium boutique festival is yet to announce its full lineup, but you can expect headliners on the main stage, DJ sets at the Big Top Dance Tent, and intimate acoustic sets at the Cheshire Live Lounge.

One of the biggest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the North West is also coming to the region at Chester Pride on 16th August. Expect a colourful parade and live performances throughout the day.

For the foodies, the famous Nantwich Food and Drink Festival is also scheduled for the August bank holiday weekend (29th - 31st August). It’s one of the biggest town-based food festivals in the UK with over 200 exhibitors.
