Pupils from Totnes St John’s Primary School have been raising awareness about health and safety after visiting Linden Homes’ development in Totnes.
The school council officially opened a new footpath to promote Road Safety Week (20th to 26th November) that links Camomile Lawn with Parkers Close, and the visit provided a perfect opportunity for the housebuilders to talk about health and safety.
Lisa Baumback, a teacher from Totnes St John’s Primary School, said: “The children recently helped open the new footpath at Camomile Lawn with the Deputy Mayor and they were given some new hi-visibility vests to ensure they are seen on their walk to school and on school outings, which they were thrilled with.
“Our pupils have been interested in the building works but it’s important to reinforce the safety messages too and they behaved very responsibly – we were extremely proud of them.”
Brian Deacon, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “We hope that we have made the children aware of how to keep themselves safe around an active construction site, giving them advice that they can use on their walk to school too. The pupils were extremely excited and already knew a lot about road safety.”
Brian added: “The new paths enable residents to walk to school, Steamer Quay and the town centre more easily but they also provide more routes for the whole community, whether they travel by foot or bike.”
