New students from South Devon College started their academic year with a site visit to Linden Homes’ new development, Ogwell Brook, East Ogwell, near Newton Abbot.
The Diploma students who have started working towards a level one in carpentry and joinery were given a site tour, health and safety presentation and got to hear from the experience of the trade from local contractor Dan Lucas of Pete Lucas Carpenters working on site.
Tutor, Jonny Standing is grateful for the on-going partnership with the local homebuilder: This kind of educational experience is something we cant give our students in the classroom. The trips are a great way for students to gain a greater understanding of construction. Being on site gives them a good chance to see the different stages of construction, the plant machinery used and the latest technology developments.
Linden Homes’ Health and Safety Administrator, David Bell said: Supporting students in this way gives us a great opportunity to introduce new recruits into the industry and give them first hand experience of what we have to offer as an employer.
The students are the first of a series of classes due to visit Linden developments from the college this term.
