Road Named In Memory Of Late Ringwood Town Councillor
28 Aug 2018

Linden Homes has named the primary road through its popular Beaumont Park de-velopment as Chard Lane in honour of the late Town Councillor Neville James Chard. His partner, Jenny Bursey, his daughter Sarah Layzell and grandson Lincoln along with members from the Town Council were invited to the development to unveil the road sign.

Neville was a well-known and respected member of the Town Council from 1973 until his retirement in 2015, known as the “father” of the Council he brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role. In 2010 he was awarded the title of Honorary Freeman of Ringwood Town in recognition of his outstanding service to the people of the town, to this day he is the only person to be awarded this title.

Because of his positive influence on the Ringwood community Linden Homes ap-proached the Town Council to request approval to name a road at the new develop-ment in his memory as a lasting tribute to such an inspirational individual.

Commenting on the road naming, Jenny said: “Neville would be absolutely delighted that a road has been named after him in the town that he loved. It’s great to see the sign so prominent just off the main road, those that knew Neville will drive past and see it, it’s a great way to keep his memory alive.”

Joining Neville’s family at Beaumont Park were Cllr Tony Ring; the Town Mayor, Cllr Phillip Day, Cllr Christine Ford, Cllr Christopher Treleaven, Cllr Tim Ward and Cllr Angela Wiseman who were also given a tour of the completed first phase of the de-velopment by Jo Dixon, Marketing Manager and Robin Pearmain, Senior Planning Manager from Linden Homes South.

Chard Lane is the primary road leading through the popular first phase of the devel-opment from the main road, all the apartments and homes in this phase are now com-plete and have all been snapped up.

Jo said: “Beaumont Park is an extension of a flourishing community in Ringwood and its important to us to integrate within this existing community. It felt very fitting to name a new road in this exciting new development in honour of such an influential figure in the community.”
