A family-support charity in Royston has received a financial boost from a local housebuilder after appealing for funding.
Linden Homes, which is currently building new homes at Meridian Gate in Royston, donated £690 to Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire.
The donation was doubled to £1,380, through a matched-funding initiative from the Four Acre Trust, and will pay for co-ordinator support for two vulnerable families for nine months.
Home-Start, which was founded in 1983, is a local community network made up of trained volunteers who assist struggling families with young children aged nine and under.
Sarah Mascall, scheme manager for Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire, said: “The last 18 months have been extremely difficult for many families. Over 85 per cent of the parents that we see are struggling with their mental health, which can cause them to feel less able to engage in fun activities with their children. This can in turn lead to developmental delays, relationship breakdowns and increased stress on the entire family.
“By developing trusted relationships with the families that we work with, we are able to provide bespoke and tailored support to parents, helping them to manage their lives independently and find the fun in parenting again.
“Due to the significant increase in the demand for our services since April this year, we are enormously grateful to Linden Homes for their generous donation. Funding like this is crucial in helping us to meet the increased need for support.”
