Hawkswood: the vibrant town of Bicester a shopper’s paradise

Choosing your next home in Hawkswood allows you to enjoy a full range of useful local amenities all within walking distance of your front door. Most notable is Bicester Village - the incredibly stylish and now world-famous luxury retail outlet. Browse through luxury brands from Armani to Zadig & Voltaire while you discover the latest offers and arrivals at the UK’s most prestigious shopping outlet centre. While Bicester Village’s retail outlet attracts tourists from far and wide, this ancient Oxfordshire town has so much more to offer. It has a delightful mix of independent shops and market stalls amongst the everyday household names. The pedestrianised stretch of Sheep Street is close to Pioneer Square where you’ll find a Sainsbury’s, Vue Cinema and Prezzo – creating a modern buzz in this historic town. Alongside the more modern places to eat and drink, discover The Red Cow pub – offering traditional charm with a modern twist and serving a delicious menu of lovely pub food.

What’s close to Bicester?

Not far from our new houses for sale in Bicester is the city of Oxford. Famous the world over for its University and history, Oxford is also home to a growing hi-tech community, with many technology businesses located in and around the area. Offering a mix of ancient and modern, there is plenty to see and do, whatever your tastes and mood. Whether it’s visiting one of the many historic buildings, colleges or museums, going out for a meal or drink, enjoying a show or getting some retail therapy, Oxford has it all.

Further entertainment and days out can be enjoyed in nearby Aylesbury. Following an exciting multi-million-pound improvement programme, the town centre has benefited from a major upgrade in the last few years, with the opening of the Waterside Theatre, a new marina at Circus Fields, along with newly improved public spaces and a refreshed look for Waterside South and Vale Park. Some ideas for family trips could include discovering Aqua Vale’s water slides and lazy river, or fun at Rogue Bowling. You could catch the latest blockbuster at the Odeon Cinema or take in a show at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. Step back in time at Bucks County Museum and for the kids – young and old – explore the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery.

Less than 20 miles from Bicester is Banbury, a bustling market town set amidst the rolling hills of the north Cotswolds. A visit to Banbury wouldn’t be complete without going to see the impressive bronze statue of the ‘Fine Lady’ from the famous nursery rhyme, located close to the Banbury Cross. Enjoy the atmospheric lanes and streets of the Old Town and Castle Quay shopping mall and take in some of the town’s history at the museum, located directly beside the Oxford Canal. The Reindeer Inn is a must-visit too, which houses the Globe Room and is where Oliver Cromwell reputedly planned the Battle of Edge Hill. Trying the local delicacy - Banbury Cake will also keep the foodies happy.

Local Schools & Education

For families with children, looking for new houses for sale in Bicester, Hawkswood offers easy access to a range of excellent schools for all ages. Southwold Primary School and Longfields County Primary School (Ofsted rated ‘Good’) are both less than 4 miles from Hawkswood, slightly further afield is Launton Church of England Primary School, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Glory Farm Primary School – all of which received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted. When it comes to children with secondary schooling needs, The Bicester School can be found less than 2 miles away and The Cooper School, less than 3 miles away offering ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated education. The Bardwell School is also located about the same distance away from Hawkswood and was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. For further education, the University of Buckingham is close by, along with the world-renowned Oxford University and Oxford Brookes.

Transport & Travel

Situated on the edge of Bicester just 3 miles from Junction 9 of the M40 and 12 miles from Oxford, Hawkswood is ideally located for commuting to Oxford, the Midlands or to London. Bicester has two train stations - from Bicester Village, half-hourly services run to Oxford in 40 minutes, while from the larger Bicester North, there are direct services to London Marylebone, from 46mins, and Birmingham Snow Hill, from 72 mins. There are plenty of local trains and bus services covering the area, for easy access when it comes to getting to school, the shops and local attractions. The nearby M40 connects London and Birmingham, with Bicester about halfway between them, so journeys by car are straightforward. It’s also an easy drive to Milton Keynes and the M1 for Northampton and further north, while to the west the glorious Cotswolds beckon, for days out and weekend escapes. If you’re travelling further afield, Luton Airport (46 miles) is the nearest, with Birmingham East Midlands Airport (57 miles) offering even more destinations.
