Yorkshire Named As One Of The Top Places In The World To Visit
31 Oct 2013

THE region famous for its tea, fantastic landscapes, Olympic athletes and cobbled streets has been named by travel guide Lonely Planet as one of the best places in the world to visit.

Yorkshire ranked third in the Top 10 world regions, behind destinations in India and Australia, in the guide which mentioned the area’s ‘rugged moorlands, heritage homes and cosy pubs’ - and that next year's Tour de France's grand depart will be in Leeds.

The 13th Century York Minster Cathedral also makes it into the guide's Top 10 global ‘sights to make you feel small’.

And if that isn’t enough to celebrate, there is plenty of opportunity to make Yorkshire not only a visitor destination – but also your home sweet home!

Thanks to award-winning Linden Homes, a number of new and coming soon developments are offering something special for home hunters in East Riding, North and West Yorkshire – including locations in York and village locations close to Wakefield and Harrogate.

Linden Homes sales director Steve Woomble said: “This Lonely Planet ranking for Yorkshire is an additional boost for the region. We’ve always known that this is a fabulous place not only to visit, but to live – and our popular developments are proof of that.”

Yorkshire has also previously beaten Berlin, London and Madrid to win the title of Europe's Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards.

The guide also refers to the success of Yorkshire athletes - including heptathlete Jessica Ennis, cyclist Ed Clancy and boxer Nicola Adams - in the 2012 Olympics, which resulted in winning seven gold medals.
