The Guildford office of Linden Homes, has been living up to its Sustainable Housebuilder of the Year* title by recycling the sales and marketing suite from one of its Surrey developments to create a new community facility.
Linden Homes donated the building, which was previously used as the sales suite at its Gresham Mill site in Old Woking and it has now been moved 40 miles to Graylingwell Park in Chichester, one of the UK’s largest carbon-neutral developments.
Reutilised and transformed with thanks to the Graylingwell Park partners, Chichester Community Development Trust (CCDT), local businesses and the community, The Lodge is now an Ofsted-approved community centre and will house a pre-school, community groups and events, and other activities including yoga and dance classes, as well as being available for private hire.
Natalie Flint, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes Guildford said, “Sustainability is at the heart of our business and what better way of enforcing this ethos than by recycling an entire building from one of our finished schemes so it can benefit another local community. It has been great to see everyone coming together to create such a great space.”
As well as delivering a new community space, The Lodge has also provided work experience for over 100 local students and unemployed people through The Construction Community Works Projects, a social enterprise that carries out small building projects using teams of construction students from Chichester College and people on Back to Work schemes.
Clare de Bathe, Director of CCDT said, “Involving Chichester college students was particularly important to us. CCDT is all about creating a bright future for the area and supporting the young and unemployed is a great way to do this.”
Linden Homes Guildford, which currently has homes for sale at its flagship development, Swallowhurst, in Cranleigh, scooped the prestigious Mayor’s Award at the WSA Surrey Property Awards last November. The coveted award recognises companies or individuals for having made the most significant ‘people orientated’ impact locally, through development, training and education for children, students and/or personnel.
Natalie Flint adds, “It is vital we engage with the communities we operate in and this latest project at Graylingwell Park demonstrates that giving something back to the local community isn’t just confined to our developments in Surrey but that it is something to be recognised across all of our schemes.”
