Despite the lockdown and commitment to shielding, Linden Homes Yorkshire’s Vanessa Allison and her sons have used pedal power to help raise funds for NHS frontline workers.
New homes sales executive Vanessa from New Waltham and her family have been self-isolating since the lockdown measures were introduced in March, given her youngest son Toby’s underlying heath condition.
But in an attempt to ease the pressure of lock down and give something back to the NHS, Vanessa and her 21-year-old son Bradley took part in the Lockdown 50 Challenge - organised by Sportive HQ - each cycling 25 miles.
Vanessa said: “It was the first time that we has been out of the house in nearly 11 weeks! Bradley is currently living with his girlfriend’s family to safeguard his little brother Toby. We can’t wait for the time when all three of my boys are back home together once things get back to normal. Although we can’t live together right now, we decided to do this charity fundraiser together.”
Classed as a virtual event, entrants paid a registration fee and then chose to walk, run or ride over the weekend and log their progress.
For social distancing reasons Vanessa and Bradley were quite happy to get on their bikes and ride out together alone! They set off from their family home in New Waltham onto the Lincolnshire Wolds and just got ‘lost’ for 25 miles before heading home.
The event raised £805 towards providing bottled water for NHS workers on their shifts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Vanessa and Bradley received a t-shirt for completing the event.
Among the hospitals benefitting from the event were those in York, Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole.
