Pupils at South Devon Steiner School recently visited Linden Homes’ Orestone View new homes development in Goodrington to learn about the housebuilding process.
The children, all aged eight or nine years old, were shown floor plans, taken to look at the building site, shown a JCB 12 metre reach forklift truck in action and then viewed a completed show home.
Linden Homes’ build manager, Andrew Sykes said: “Getting hands-on experience really brings the housebuilding process to life. Being able to touch the different types of materials and see the different stages of build is a much more useful lesson than anything you could do in the classroom.
“We love having schools visit us on site, some of the pupils ask some really interesting questions and make some very imaginative suggestions – it’s great to see them so inspired.
“It’s a perfect opportunity to talk to the children about site safety too.”
Teacher Simon Berkley from South Devon Steiner School said: “Being able to hold a lesson on a building site ensures it’s a lesson the children will remember and we’re so grateful to Linden Homes for making this happen.
“The pupils really enjoyed their experience on site, they were able to engage with staff undertaking different roles and loved touching the variety of materials. They were given floor plans which really helped and they’ve been busy designing their own homes for a competition Linden Homes is holding.”
Linden Homes is creating 100 contemporary homes at Orestone View in Goodrington, Paignton. Featuring a range of two bedroom coach houses, plus two, three and four bedroom homes in a traditional seaside setting, the development will be built to a high specification with views of the Ore Stone in the bay.
