Mike Brooks has been in his new Linden Homes’ Wilshere Park home for several weeks now. He will share his elegantly appointed and beautifully open plan new ‘Courser’ five bedroom house with his two children, who will be staying with him ‘from time to time’.
Mike was originally from the village of Wheathampstead near St Albans, where he has lived for most of his life:
“I love living in the countryside; I’m a keen cyclist and I have dogs so I was looking for somewhere rural. But I also needed somewhere that was easy to commute to and from. I always say that if I had stuck a pin into a map to pinpoint my ideal location, I couldn’t have chosen a better spot that Wilshere Park!”
Mike says the position of Wilshere Park means he can step outside into the countryside, but he’s within easy reach of Welwyn Garden City, which is just a few miles away and offers direct rail links to London Kings Cross. The development is within very easy reach of the A1 as well as the M25 and the M1.
Mike heard about Wilshere Park through the estate agents Strutt and Parker. He decided to walk up to the site and have a look round:
“I had a chat with the staff in the sales and marketing suite and they showed me the plans of the homes and the site. They showed me around and I was so impressed, I made an offer that day.
“I really loved the fact that everything would be finished and new. As a divorced dad of two, I don’t have time for lots of DIY so I wanted something that would be very low maintenance. When you buy a new house from Linden Homes, you have their builder’s guarantee and the backup that goes with it. This really appealed to me.
“Some people think it’s brave to buy off plan – and yes you are taking a bit of a calculated risk because you don’t have the finished product in front of you. But I felt that the earlier I got in, the more boxes I would be able to tick. Which turned out to be true: I was especially pleased with the plot.
“I have to say that the Linden Homes’ sales executives couldn’t have done more to help me settle in. Moving house is always stressful but they did their utmost to alleviate some of that stress and make it as comfortable and pleasant as possible. They were there as I moved in so they could show me around the house – explaining the boiler, the heating and the other bits and pieces.”
