New safety vests for Exeter Rowing Club’s junior squad

Exeter Rowing Club has a number of new safety vests, thanks to support from a local housebuilder.

Linden Homes, which is building new homes in the city, donated 20 hi-visibility vests to help the club during training sessions at Exeter’s historic quay and ship canal. The junior squad has around 30 members, aged 12-18 years, and reached out to the company for support.

Emma Russo, sponsorship coordinator at Exeter Rowing Club, commented: “Our juniors are out on the river and canal four times a week all year and their safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have an army of parent volunteers who spend hours cycling along the banks to ensure their safety and coach these crews and we wanted to provide hi-vis vests to ensure they could be seen. We are very grateful for the donation.”

Emma added: “The junior squad is a well-motivated, hard-working group of aspiring athletes and they’ve achieved great things in the last couple of years, including international representation for Team GB and wins across all age groups in local and national competitions. Last year we had a team make it to the semi-finals at Henley Royal Regatta, which is one of the best known rowing competitions in the world. Graduates of the junior squad have gone on to row full-time for the GB Paralympic squad, while others have gone on to row at British and American universities on rowing scholarships. It’s a great club that can support members whether they’re considering trying the sport, enjoy rowing and socialising with friends, or competing at the highest levels of competition.”

Sales consultant, Aaron Chapple said: “Exeter Rowing Club is a brilliant facility for the local community and it was fantastic to meet everyone bright and early on a Saturday and see the new vests being used. It’s important that the stewards can be easily identified by the rowers and members of the public and so we were pleased to be able to provide the safety gear. We wish the junior squad all the best in their forthcoming competitions, they’re a strong team and it was wonderful to see them train.”

Linden Homes supports many community initiatives near to its developments and is creating homes locally at Sandrock and Tithe Barn, near Pinhoe. For more details or to book an appointment, call 01326 741388 or visit www.lindenhomes.co.uk
