Acorn Playgroup and Pre-School in Welwyn village, which is raising money for a new awning so the children can get out in the fresh air whatever the weather is doing, has received £1000 from Linden Homes.
The Acorn Playgroup moved to Welwyn village from Oaklands in the spring of 2013. Established nearly twenty years ago, the playgroup is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
The new awning, which will cost £10,000, will allow the children to play outside when it’s raining – and in the summer it will shield them from the sun.

Julia Hutchinson, Chair of the board of Trustees at Acorns, says the donation from Linden Homes is extremely welcome:
“This very generous donation is hugely appreciated by us all. We work very hard to raise funds and donations of this sort are simply amazing. The awning will mean that the children can go outside whatever the weather is like. It will come into its own in the rain and the sun – protecting them from the elements while they play.”
To boost the funds further, Acorns is planning a Quiz night and Auction of donated gifts and items with all proceeds going towards the new awning. (The event is being held on Friday 15th May, at the Welwyn Sports and Social Club, Ottway Walk).
Linden Homes is currently building Wilshere Park in Welwyn village. The first phase will consist of three, four and five bedroom homes. These homes will be released once the new sales and marketing suite is opened later this month, when it will be possible to come in and see the house plans and a model of the development. Staff will be on hand to talk you through the homes available. The beautiful new three bedroom show home will also be available for viewing. (A second show home – with four bedrooms – will be available for viewing in March).
