Housebuilder, Linden Homes has teamed up with Welwyn St Mary’s Primary School during Walk to School Week (21-25 May) to promote the importance of safety and environmental awareness when pupils are making their journeys into school.
Linden Homes who are currently creating the Wilshere Park development nearby to the school, were pleased to support the pupils during the awareness week, by gifting a number of high-vis vests to the children to wear when out and about.
Walk to School Week is a national campaign to encourage children and their families to build exercise into their daily routine. The initiative also has several environmental benefits including helping to reduce CO2 emissions, decrease traffic congestion and improve safety at the school gates. In 2017, 400,000 children and their families decided to leave the car at home and walk to school.

Mary Westly, Headteacher from Welwyn St Mary’s Primary School commented: “Walk to School Week helps to promote many values that we look to instil in the pupils including healthy living and environmental awareness. Equally important is promoting the importance of safety so the bright high-vis vests provided by Linden Homes will be of great use on their future walks to school. Hopefully we will see many more of our pupils take up walking to school as a free and easy way to build exercise into their days.”
Wilshere Park comprises a new neighbourhood of both refurbished and new one, two and three bedroom apartments. Many of these are available with Help to Buy. There are also two and four bedroom homes.
