FOR staff at developer Linden Homes – it may be a while before they can face a Jaffa Cake, after munching their way through almost 150 in aid of a good cause.
A team from the award-winning house builder’s Hessle head office embarked on their own Jaffa Cake challenge to boost funds for nearby St Andrews Hospice.
Directors and members of the commercial and land teams pitted their wits against each other to see who could polish off the most tasty treats in a minute – each paying a donation to enter the very novel challenge.
Around £50 was collected for hospice coffers (which Linden Homes will match to double the total), and the Queen of the Jaffa Cake Challenge was purchase assistant Gemma Clarke – who was one little orange sponge cake off her matching her 2012 efforts, with a respectable six Jaffas.
Organiser of the fun event, commercial administrator Jade Maggs said: “It was a lot of fun and thanks to everyone who took part. Entrants managed to munch their way through 144 Jaffa Cakes and raise a few pounds for a good cause.
“We may repeat the event again next year, or come up something different.”
However, there is plenty of time to practise if they are to beat the current world record holder for the most Jaffa Cakes eaten in a minute – held by Canadian Pete Czerwinski, who entered the Guinness Book of Records in January 2013 for 17.
