Conversely, while some people are happy to downsize to be close to the city action, research from estate agents Chesterton Humberts shows that 2014 has been a year of migration from the heart of the city (areas that include Kensington and Chelsea) out into the more leafy ‘villages’ – so areas like Chiswick, Putney, Barnes and Kew, Battersea and Fulham.
These residents in this case are looking for more room. Not less. But they don’t want to move out of London, so they are being drawn, according to the research, towards areas offering more space, gardens and that rare London commodity: private parking.
