Hundreds Of Primary Pupils Don Hard Hats For Nature Walks Thanks To Housebuilder Donation
12 May 2021

Young pupils in Maidstone are donning hard hats and high vis donated by a national housebuilder as they get back to nature.

Vistry Group has supplied 30 hard hats and 30 high vis jackets to Loose Primary School, on Loose Road, to wear during a new construction competition as well as woodland walks.

Assistant head teacher, Sean Johnson, said the children, aged 5 to 7, loved the hats and jackets, and more than 650 pupils would use them for creative role play; on their woodland walk, where the school has installed a construction frame; and in a challenge to try and build the most waterproof covering for new teepee frames.

He said: “A huge thank you to Vistry Group, our pupils absolutely love the jackets. They’ve felt like real construction workers and it all adds to the learning experience they receive. Pupils say how cool and brightly coloured they are! We have various sizes so all our 655 children can use and enjoy them. We are having a construction competition to see who can build the most waterproof covering for the new teepee frames and the children are also wearing them during this project.”

Candice McCabe, marketing manager at Vistry Kent, said Vistry was happy to donate to such a worthwhile cause and to contribute towards educating young pupils about construction.

“Vistry is very happy to donate high vis and hard hats to young pupils at Loose Primary School and is delighted to hear about the creative projects and competition that they’re involved in,” she said. “Also to be able to support the children on their woodland walks, which are as important as ever at the moment.”
