House Building And Construction On The Timetable For Schoolchildren
07 Apr 2017

Swapping the classroom for a construction site and adding hi-vis jackets and hard hats to their school uniform – house building made an appearance on the timetable for Pontefract pupils.

Around 60 youngsters from Cobblers Lane Primary School – recently renamed Cherry Tree Academy – were invited to find out first hand about the world of bricks and mortar during a visit to Linden Homes West Yorkshire’s nearby development.

A chat from the health and safety team, the chance to get up close and personal with static machinery, a mini tour of the Manor Park site and the opportunity to see various stages of the house building process formed a packed timetable for the nine and 10 year olds.

Three groups of children visited the development over two days, at the invitation of the Wetherby-based new homes builder – and each left with a goodie bag and Easter treats to mark their visit. Linden Homes also donated a cherry tree to the school to mark the change of name.

Pat Tennyson, Linden Homes West Yorkshire connections and marketing manager, said: “It was our pleasure to welcome the youngsters who showed a real interest and enthusiasm throughout their visit – made possible by members of the site and sales teams.”

Karen Briggs, Cherry Tree Academy head teacher, added: “Our thanks to Linden Homes for inviting to us to see elements of the development taking shape and for making the visit so informative and enjoyable.”

A selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes are currently being built at Manor Park, ideal for first time buyers, young professional and families. The development is perfectly positioned for commuters, located within easy access to the wider region via the M62 and three local train stations.

Youngsters get an insight into construction health and safety from Galliford Try health, safety and sustainability manger, Richard Crowne.
