Four Bedrooms And A Fairy Tale Ending At Rosewood Mill
01 Feb 2014

There are now just five homes remaining at Linden Homes’ lovely Rosewood Mill development in West End, on the outskirts of Southampton.

Kelly Waterhouse is one of the newest residents at Rosewood Mill. She, her husband Daniel and their three children Oliver 11, Isabel 9 and Tabitha 3, moved in to their new four bedroom detached house on 20th December, just in time for Christmas.

Kelly says it was a great decision – and one in which fate took a hand:

“We were living in upper Shirley in Southampton in a lovely old 1930s house. We ideally needed another bedroom and had investigated the possibility of doing a loft extension, but we felt that, even with the loft converted, the house still wouldn’t offer us the sort of space we really wanted. We originally put the house on the market in January 2013, but then took it off again.

What the family didn’t know was that someone had been admiring their house for some time from a distance. Kelly says the first the family knew of this was when they received a note through the letter box:

“The person who wrote the note apologised for the intrusion but said they had fallen in love with our house and wanted very much to buy it. We decided to go for it – and got in touch.”

So now they had to think seriously about what sort of home they wanted to buy:

“Daniel isn’t very handy – he’s not into DIY. And I wanted to live somewhere where everything works – where the doors aren’t all a bit wonky. We needed an extra bedroom too. We were very much coming round to the idea of a new build home.”

The family had previously been to see another Linden Homes development in Oxfordshire – Cholsey Meadows. They loved the homes but couldn’t, at the time, find something to suit them.

Because they were on the company database, an invitation arrived on the doormat from Linden Homes to an open day at Rosewood Mill. Kelly says the Linden Homes were very impressive:

“We had looked at other new build homes, from other companies, but nothing was finishes to as a high a standard as we saw in the Linden homes’ properties – I particularly loved the doors and I fell in love with the show home. The first thing I did was visit the local school to make sure they had places for the children. They did – and it all happened quite quickly after that.

“When we actually bought our house, it was still a building site, but that gave us the chance to have some input into the final finish. We were able to visit Linden Homes’ Enhance Studio at Ocean Village. We chose carpets and flooring. It was a great experience – I felt like Cinderella in the interior design world!”

Kelly says the experience of buying a new home from Linden was a very positive one:

“With Linden Homes you feel like everyone is working for you. Nothing has ever been too much trouble. We found the staff genuine, sincere and honest. There was no hard sell and no pushiness at all. We felt that they were all passionate about the Linden Homes’ brand and what they were selling.”

“To be honest, to start with I had been concerned about leaving my lovely 1930s characterful home behind – with its walled gardens, four fireplaces and picture rails: In fact I wondered if some of my friends would think I was mad. But our new home is fantastic; everyone who has seen it is really impressed. There is a lovely kitchen dining room and a large lounge; the garden is a great size too – which we hadn’t expected.”

“The layout of the development means that I am able to let the children out on their bikes – which isn’t something they were able to do at our old house. We are really happy at Rosewood Mill. It was a great decision to move.”
