Site manager Marcus Ford has been awarded a prestigious NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in Job Quality Award 2023 for building homes of exceptional quality at Tithe Barn in Exeter.
Pride in the Job recognises the top site managers in the country. Running for 43 years, the accolade – awarded by the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider – is the most highly regarded in the house-building industry.
Judging for the awards is rigorous and began last summer. Each site manager is assessed across six key areas of site management: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
Marcus, 44, lives in Exeter. With over 20 years’ experience in the house building industry, he joined the company in 2016 as an assistant site manager before he was promoted in 2019. He now manages one of the region’s biggest developments and is responsible for a team of 50 people.
Commenting on the award win, he said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised and I can’t thank my team enough for the support. I love being out on site and dealing with all the different trades, but the best part of the job is seeing happy customers move in, there’s not a feeling like it – just utter pride. Knowing we’ve built a family a quality house and they’re going to make it a home is wonderful.”
Marcus, whose mum also works in house building, added: “At work, I’m always thinking ‘what next?’ as I do think it’s important to constantly look ahead. Things always have to be right – every day – and then it becomes second nature to the whole team. I’m lucky to have a strong assistant site manager – James – and he bought a home at the development. We’re all so proud of what we’re achieving at Tithe Barn and we have feedback printed out on the wall in the site office as a daily reminder.”
