The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Peter Holland attended a celebratory event that brought the local community together at Linden Homes’ Tithe Barn development in Exeter.
Representatives from Exeter City Council, Linden Homes and members of the business community congregated to view the new show home, network and discuss Exeter’s growing appeal.
The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Peter Holland, commented: “Exeter is a vibrant city which lies at the heart of the west country and new developments are making Exeter popular for new and relocating businesses. Nearby examples of this include the Met Office, Exeter Science Park and IKEA to name but a few. The city is on the M5, A30, A380 and A38 corridors, it has an international airport and main line railway station. Exeter now has almost 130,000 residents with many exciting groups supporting their communities.”
He added: “This was my first visit to a new build house for 40 years – wow what a difference, there has clearly been a massive improvement in design and durability! The configuration of the Linden homes has been well thought out with no wasted space and they’ve improved sustainability by using technology and materials to reduce carbon emissions effectively. Linden Homes must be justifiably proud of the business community event and I wish them every success during the forthcoming year and into the future!”
Emma Colin, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes, said: “We were delighted to welcome key local businesses to our event. It was a real community affair, with canapés provided by Topsham’s Astridge’s Catering and a celebration of how the development has progressed so far.
“Tithe Barn provides homes for the local community and connects the business district, enabling residents to walk and cycle to work. It’s certainly a development we’re very proud of and it’s fantastic to see it all take shape.”
Tithe Barn features three, four and five bedroom high quality homes in a village-like setting, while being close to Exeter’s city centre. The properties will benefit from a state-of-the-art district heating network which includes remote metering technology so homeowners can keep track of how much energy they’re using.
Across the entire development, it is estimated that this new system will provide 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide savings per year – or the equivalent of removing 2,500 cars from the road.
